This may be the most mammoth challenge you have taken up as a trekker in your years of trekking expeditions. The Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the entire world. You may have already started to get bedazzled by the idea of performing this feat. And you may be looking forward for some really helpful tips to prepare yourself mentally to perform this feat.

Here are 7 most important tips to help you scale the heights with all the preparation you may need for this expedition.

  1. Physical is vital, and for what?

Start with the exercises and stretching well in advance. You have to make sure that your joints are well stretched and flexible by the time you are ready.   This may sound like a very obvious trip, but you must understand the vitality of being physically fit. It is not only to help you scale the heights of the trek, but also necessary for surviving in the harsh weather conditions and the low oxygen levels. If you are a smoker, make sure you have quit smoking well in advance. Start working on lung exercises. Work on your lung capacity and practice rigorous breathing exercises. This is going to be so much more helpful once you are there.

  1. Mental fitness is vital and for what?

As important physical fitness may seem, it is equally important for you to be mentally fit as well. This is not the average trek with all its average trekking challenges that your average mental exercising can solve. You must have the mental capacity to perform strenuous acts like walking on a sharp edge, crossing a pass that is hollow and will be dangerous if you make one wrong move. Take time to meditate and be in par with your thoughts so that you can welcome more thoughts and challenges with the same ease.

  1. Do you have the right trekking gear?

One may think that the gear is extremely important factor, and so it is, especially for this trek. You must have all the essential gears required and if you do not have an idea as to if you have enough gear, you can ask the local guide who will guide you through all the necessary gear requirements. It is well known that having the essential gear, cuts the risk factor to a half. So be prepared with all that you may require. The key is not to have the most expensive gears, but to have all the right gears.

  1. Staying hydrated:

Now we know how difficult it is to drink water in chilly conditions that make you feel like maybe you don’t need to drink after all. And sometimes we even forget to drink water. But once you have actually started to trek, you will realize that you are sweating a lot and that it means you are losing a lot of water. So keep yourself hydrated and don’t lose water. It is what keeps you going out there.

  1. Take care of your paws:

You may be trekking with the spirit of a lion, but your body is still human and it’s just the two feet that you are walking on. Make sure you are wearing dry socks, dry shoes. Make sure there is no room for seepage of water inside your feet. Even a little bit of moisture can result in bed conditions for your feet, the worst can be a frost bite and you don’t want to lose those toes on your way.

  1. Be consistent with your steps trough out the trek:

Now we know the old tale of the rabbit and the tortoise and their race. You are the tortoise. Walk like one. You know that the trek is going to be long, and the key to a good trek is being consistent with the pace in which you take the next step.  If you trek fast initially and slow down later, you will be losing a lot of that essential body heat. So take it slow and steady, it helps you maintain the required body heat.

  1. Getting a good night’s sleep:

One cannot emphasize this enough, but the body will get extremely tired and it needs all the rest it can get. So don’t waste time and take time out to rest and sleep all that you can. Eat warm foods on the trek and sleep as soon as you can. This will give the body time to retain its lost energy, and do the necessary repairs in the system.

You should not be worried as it is only a little bit more challenging is all and more than that, this expedition will give you a thrill of a life time as you get to trek from a height of 2800 meters to a height of 5300 meters. To get a look of the highest mountain peak in the world up and close is a different feeling all together.
