Censor Board can’t remove Punjab without a Letter, says Rohit Shetty

Udta Punjab is one of the controversial topics at present. Rohit Shetty, Bollywood Director shared that the CBFC(Censor Board for Film Certification) holds no right to ask the makers of the film Udta Punjab to remove the word ‘Punjab’ or any other words in the film, until and unless any organisation or political party has an objection and conveys it through by sending a letter.

Rohit shared, “It is becoming a lot, the controversy and problems related to Udta Punjab. At times, I feel there is no necessity for that – like removing of ‘Punjab’ from the movie name, can’t just say MLC, ministers, and we can’t include the name of places…this is not fair.”

“The rules convey that the Censor Board must react only if an organisation or a political party has an objection and raises it. Did anyone sent a letter to them? Without the objection letter, they hold no right to remove Punjab from the movie title. How can the director and producer release it named as ‘Udta’?”

Rohit, the director of movies like All the Best, Golmaal Series, and Diwale attended the No Tobacco Day 2016 for the Association of Cancer Patients Aid.

The film Udta Punjab is amidst loggerheads with the CBFC after it suggested many number of cuts in the film.

When quizzed on why the films are highlighting drug issues in a state, he told, “The problem here is, no one really knows what the actual problem is. If you consider, Ekta (Kapoor), Anurag (Kashyap) are also questioning the Censor Board.”

“I can understand what the director and producer and people who invested their money and the team of the film would be going through. It was supposed to be released on the friday and if the rules conflict and they wouldn’t get the certificate, then it won’t release.”
