A Netgear WiFi range extender, sometimes called a range expander, wireless repeater, or signal booster is used to expand the reach of an existing wireless LAN (local area network) or the main router. The process of Netgear new extender setup is done between an access point or router and a client that is not placed enough closed to receive acceptable service.
Here’s how to setup a Netgear WiFi extender via WPS Method
- Place your wireless repeater in the same room of the main WiFi Router.
- Be 100% sure that you have a live and active internet connection coming out from the existing router. Also, ensure that it is WPS (WiFi-Protected Setup) capable.
- Also, note down that WPS does not support the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) Security. Moreover, change the security of the main router as well to WPA2-PSK (AES) for better performance.
- Now, plug the signal booster into an electrical outlet and wait for the LED lights on your device start blinking. In case it doesn’t, then push the On/Off button on your extender once.
- Press the WPS button for about couple of seconds and within a few minutes, press the WPS button on your main router as well.
- Now, the WPS LED on your extender will turn to solid green and the router Link LED will also turn to solid green. This will show you that your EXT is properly connected to your main WiFi network.
You can now move your range extender to the preferred location.
