Types of modelling and their role in advertising Industry

Modelling is not restricted to just adding glamour and fashion. There are several kinds of models. Each of the models has their own specialisation as like other fields some of the types are explained below.

Plus-size models

Plus-size models are the ones who usually have higher measurements compared to the fashion models from editorials. The main use of plus-size models is appearing in shows like advertising and runway for plus size labels. These models are also involved in work which is not strictly in the areas of selling clothing of large-sized. For example the professional photography like stock and advertising photography’s in cosmetics, pharmaceutical products, household products etc. Hence the plus-size models do not wear garments that marketed as plus-size clothing. This happens especially during the participation in the editorials of fashion for the mainstream in the fashion magazines. Few plus-size models have made their appearance in runway shows and designers’ shows.

Alternative models

An alternative model is one that does not fit into conventional type of model and they could include tattooed, Goth, punk and fetish models or with different attitude. This kind of modelling is a cross between glamour and art modelling. Publishers like Goliath Books introduced an alternative like models and punk photography to large group of audience. However, there is a very little space in the modelling world for alternative modelling. Most alternative models are represented by talent agencies as character actors or sometimes put on the boards of agencies bubblegum casting is one of the notable one. Most alternative models are free-lance models without proper representation.

Parts models

Some models are recruited for their body parts in specific. Hand models will be used to promote products that are held in the hand and for nail-related products. They are usually part of television commercials. Many of the parts models have attractive body parts, but there is demand for unattractive or unusual looking body parts for specific campaigns.

Hands and Feet are the most demanded body parts, specifically those feet that fit sample size shoes. Models are also successful with modelling specific parts like bust or chest, legs, abs, arms, back and lips. Parts model divisions can be found at a number of agencies worldwide.  Bubblegum Casting is one of the agencies that provide such services.

Fitness models

Fitness modelling mainly focuses on displaying a healthy physique tone. Fitness models usually have major and minor muscles groups. The body weight of the model is usually heavier due to increased muscle weight more than fat. Fitness models are advertised in magazines. Sometimes fitness models are certified personal fitness trainers. Most of the athletes are fitness models.

Commercial print and on-camera models

Commercial models those who appear in print ads in television commercials and non-fashion products. Commercial print models could earn around $250 per hour. Such models are usually non-exclusive, and work in one location.

Promotional models

A promotional model is one who is hired to increase consumer demand for a particular service, brand, product, or concept by directly interacting with consumers. A majority of promotional models are attractive in physical appearance or well known celebrities. They provide information about the product or service and promote it to make the product appealing to consumers. The length of interaction will be short usually but the promotional models deliver a live experience on the product or service represented

Spokes models

“Spokes model” is a model who is employed to be associated with a specific brand in advertisements. A spokes model will usually be a celebrity used only in advertisements.

Trade show models

Trade show models work for a trade show floor space or booth representing a company to people who attend the show. Trade show models are usually not regular employees of the company. They are freelancers hired by the company renting the space. They are hired for several reasons like making a company’s booth more visibly distinguishable from the hundreds of other booths with which it competes for attention of the attending people.
